europe trip 2007

Paris - Musee Carnavalet

I had to back to see some of the rooms I'd missed last time!

London

Victoria & Albert Museum - I avoided the costume wing after checking that the dresses were the same I'd seen the last time, and instead concentrated on the British, European, and Textile galleries which I'd never had time for before.

Remember this dress? It has a side seam!

Bath

The Museum of Costume is being redisplayed, so only a few rooms were open... Luckily I'd been before, but it has been about 14 years!

The Jane Austen Centre is really not worth visiting (nothing actually OF Jane's - sigh - guess I need to go to Chawton next time!) but luckily they were having an exhibit of the costumes from the 2007 ITV version of Persuasion, costumed by Andrea Galer. I love some of Galer's work, but not these... mostly ho hum! Lots of jackets with the same cutaway front, lots of bodices from the exact same pattern. The dresses were well made, with evidence of hand sewing.

An actual period dress that had been reconstructed (it was found in pieces). Stripey!
